In a Mitre-started game, the Yankees know they'll need to rely a little more on their offense and their bullpen to win the game. Their offense and bullpen happen to be performing very well lately, so any game Mitre starts is not a lost cause (unless he's up against an ace, which is highly unlikely).
So this 10-5 loss requires a bit more analysis than "well, Mitre started and he stinks so no wonder we lost, whatever"...this game was lost by Posada, who might be tired, and Aceves, who had an off day.
Posada left 6 men on base today. And Aceves gave up 4 runs in what was, by far, his worst outing of the season (Hughes also gave up a key hit in this series). We'll leave it to the Yankees to figure out what went wrong with him today. It could just be that the White Sox are overachieving and would be crushed in Yankee stadium without a madhouse full of fans turning the tide.
Whatever it is, let's hope Aceves and Hughes get themselves together. There are bigger fish to fry just over the horizon.
