2722

With 2722 hits as a Yankee, Derek Jeter took over the franchise lead for hits, leaping over Lou Gehrig and further cementing his legacy as the best hitting shortstop of the modern era, and one of the greatest Yankees of all time.

There will be a time for the discussion on Jeter's place among the greatest players in baseball history. That's for another day.

Today is Jeter's day. Having broken the record in the prime of his career, Derek Jeter has many more hits left in him, and many more unforgettable moments ahead in pinstripes. The journey continues.
