A Reminder (and predictions)

As I indicated in the "Fire" post below, that post should come after the "Alexander" post. Anyway, here is the current status of the Yankees' postseason run.

They are still in 1st place in the AL East, as they have been for some time now. They are 7.5 games ahead of the Red Sox with 17 games to go. The Red Sox have 18 games left to play, and are behind by only 6 games in the loss column.

To finish the season the Sox will have to play 6 total games against the Yankees and Angels, with the rest coming against the Royals, Indians, Orioles, and Toronto, who we hope will sick Halladay on them.

As for the Yankees, they'll play two with Toronto (one of those games against Halladay), take a 6 game road trip to the west coast to play Seattle and Anaheim, come home for 6 total against Boston and KC, and then finish the season in Tampa for 3 games.

I think the Red Sox will go 11-7 over the next 18. Likewise, I think the Bombers will go 9-8. They'll probably clinch the AL East in the first game of the KC series. They'll also probably clinch the best record in baseball during the same 3-game set, most likely in the second game. That will give the Yankee starters about 5 regular season days of rest, plus the rest days that serve as the short break between the end of the regular season and the beginning of the postseason. It should be plenty of time for the old guys to re-tool and come out in top form for the ALDS...probably against Detroit.

AL East magic number: 12
Home field magic number: 13
Games remaining: 17
