I've always thought that pitchers were the true MVPs of any team, especially dominant starters. A great starter can come out and lead a team to victory in any game, and if a team has two or three dominant starters, they have as good a chance as anyone for a world series ring, given that the rest of the team is decent (check out the 2001 Diamondbacks and 2003 Marlins for details).
What I'm trying to say is that, even though I'm endorsing Derek Jeter for MVP this year, I'm actually only endorsing someone who I think has a chance of winning. I think the real MVP this year has probably been CC Sabathia, who is the Yankees ace, and who gets them through the biggest games on the schedule.
More on CC's blistering second half here.
