It sounds like the Yankee backups are auditioning for spots on the playoff roster, or so the beat writer Tyler Kepner, would have us believe.
I don't know if that's really true. Coaches balance ability and match ups in the postseason to find the best way to exploit the opposition. I doubt that if any one AAA player suddenly gets hot, he'll give the coaches enough of a reason to bring him in for the postseason, where everything is completely different.
I could be wrong, but I don't think these are auditions. These are exhibitions. The Yankees know who is playing in the Big Show. They've known for a while. And those guys will be ready to go.
