Tigers-Twins down to the wire

This AL Central sure is somethin, aint it?

No team in the Central will win more than 86 games this year. They can't even decide who should be fodder for the Yankees in the ALDS (or, to look at it another way, they can't decide who is going to have the opportunity to steal a trip to the ALCS to get wiped out by either the Sox or the Angels). Neither of these teams deserves to be anywhere near the postseason, but someone has gotta play the Yankees.

Amazingly, the Twins have caught the Tigers heading into the final day of the regular season. The Tigers were ahead in the AL Central all year long, and it took the Twins until October to catch them. Now with one game remaining, Carl Pavano of the Twins will face the Royals. And Justin Verlander, who now cannot start a game 1 in the playoffs, will go against the White Sox.

Should both teams win or lose, the one-game playoffs will be in Minnesota, for the right to go to Yankee Stadium 24 hours later.

Bring it on.
