Bring it!
The Yankees have an opponent. The Twins, lead by Joe Mauer and a resurgent pitching staff, have won 17 of their last 21 games, caught the Detroit Tigers for the lead in the AL Central, and beaten the Tigers in a one-game playoff, a 12-inning barn burner at the Metrodome.
Armed with a wave of excitement, a month's worth of momentum, and the most powerful home field advantage in baseball, the Twins (86 wins) will come to NY to challenge the Yankees (103 wins), a team that beat them in all 7 games they played, a team that, even if they had LOST all 7 games against the Twins, would have finished the season with more victories than Minnesota, despite the fact that the Yankees play in the best division in baseball, while the Twins play in arguably the worst.
But tomorrow, when the first pitch is thrown, none of this will matter anymore. Stats will be at 0. As good and experienced as the Yankees are, I promise you, Yankee fans, they will still need to be at their very best. Their very, very best. Because otherwise, they will not win.
It's time for some Yankees to step up.
